More information about the PSG...

What is the PSG (Parents Support Group)?

The PSG represents all parents/guardians of the International School Groningen students in an effort to enhance communication between teachers, parents and students.

Our Aims and Objectives

Our main objective is to support the teachers and students in order to obtain the optimal educational benefit. Our aim is to develop a platform for parents to be informed and discuss developments that may affect their children, whether educational or organizational and to encourage community spirit and social contact.

What does the PSG do?

  • Relates, communicates and works together with the International School Groningen management and teachers with the aim to continuously improve the performance of our children. Each month the PSG contacts the school management to discuss mutual issues and/or parents concerns.
  • Assists in finding speakers for the career guidance program, offered to MYP 5 students.
  • Makes school a fun place at times by: organizing a hotdog lunch at Project Week; a special soccer match between parents, students and staff; Sinterklaas; gets the Yearbook started and finished; generates funds for the Wim Koopman Awards and helps organize various social functions. The focus for this year will be on the 25th anniversary of the school.
  • Publishes a monthly newsletter, which will be available on the website but which also will be sent to your regular e-mail address. In this newsletter you'll find a meeting schedule and addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of all class representatives. Furthermore PSG activities are reported upon, upcoming activities are announced and your assistance might be asked for.
  • Represents the ISG at the parent council (Ouderraad) of the Maartens College.
  • Represents the ISG at the International Parents Students Support Group of the Netherlands (IPSSG), the national body of Parent Support Groups of Dutch International Secondary Schools (DISS). The representatives from the various schools exchange and evaluate information, discuss policy and other issues, such as accreditation of the IB Diploma and the number of lesson hours per subject. They also regularly make recommendations about school management or quality issues and keep in contact with the DISS Board and other institutions dealing with international education in the Netherlands.

When does the PSG meet?

The Parents Support Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 20.00 hrs in the house of one of our members. The dates are included in the official ISG calendar and the details on how to find the address of the meeting will be on the PSG link of the Website and in the PSG newsletter. If you go to www.isgroningen.nl you will find the ISG website. You can find the PSG pages under the link Community - Parents. Minutes of the PSG meetings are made and at the next meeting approved. After this they will appear on the website. You can email the secretary of the PSG for the agenda. Changes in meeting dates, on occasion, will also be announced at the website.
